My therapist was very empathetic; she would laugh at my jokes and say, "I'm sorry (they) made you feel this way," which made me feel like my concerns were really being heard. The sessions really just felt like talking with a wise and kind-hearted friend.

My therapist was open to feedback and familiar with the hardships faced by adopted Koreans returning to Korea, so I felt like each session strengthened our communication and working relationship. The result was that therapy felt more like a partnership where we were equals. At the same time, I appreciated the warm guidance and insightful questioning from my therapist. Overall, I had a great experience. -37, Jackie from the US-

The thing I found the most helpful was having a non-judgmental and compassionate space to explore my inner thoughts and feelings. It’s like looking into a mirror so you can see yourself better – through a compassionate light. I think it helped “fix” a lot of my distorted thinking, shame, and self-loathing.  - 48, Susan from the US -

Sharing my experience with a counselor who shares my same race and understanding of both US/Korean culture, the warmth/familiarity of the sessions, the history/trust built with my counselor over the years.  - 30, Kim from the US -

I am very thankful that I was able to work with my therapist.  Her support and understanding was incredibly helpful. Therapy has helped me to not give up on myself. I didn’t have to worry about what to say. I could be honest and “pour” everything that was on my heart and mind.
- 32, Matt from the USA -

My therapist made me feel validated to acknowledge my pain instead of hiding it or saying "nah, it's not a big deal." Just to confirm that my experience with some people were bad was really healing. - 23, Kara from the USA -

The empathy and wisdom of my counselor, her genuine care and listening, were definitely very helpful. It seemed she did not try to give me answers, but rather have me reveal them on my own with her guidance. I loved my counselor's methods, and learned a lot also from many exercises I was given during the sessions. It was great honor to be working with my counselor. - 41, Devorah from Germany -

I was able to discuss things openly & honestly. The therapist helped me to realize things about my own thinking & behavior and suggested effective techniques to deal with my issues. I was feeling very helpless & hopeless when I arrived for the first time but I was able to learn about myself & effective techniques to manage some of the issues that were bothering me. I feel hopeful about my future. - 21, Dan from France -

The good life is a process, not a state of being.
It is a direction not a destination.

Thank you again for making my experience in Korea more manageable. Being in a foreign country at a young age and living by myself has been quite interesting and has helped me grow a lot. I wouldn't have been able to do it without YPCS. - 23, Stephany from the USA-

I liked most the fact that my therapist could identify factors influencing my thinking without my realizing and that he could emphasize certain important points for me to concentrate on in the future. Having this third-person or outsider's perspective was extremely helpful for me. I want to thank my therapist and You&Me services for really helping to turn my situation around and make some real improvements in my emotional state and providing an caring, listening ear for my concerns. It really made a huge difference in my recovery. Thank you. - 41, Kevin from Canada-

It was very helpful to have someone validate and go through the pile of emotional mess in my mind. My counselor did that for me and provided a space to discuss and tidy up the crowded spaces in my mind. I feel a lot more comfortable "tidying up" on my own now and owe it to the skills I learned from therapy.  -45, Natalie from Germany-
